1 child killed, another injured in violent crash on 215 Freeway in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC)– One child was killed, another injured and an adult injured in a violent crash on the 215 freeway in Riverside on Tuesday, authorities said.

The accident was reported just after midnight on the south side of the freeway near Blaine Street, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Fire department paramedics initially responded to a report of a traffic accident with victims who may have been trapped, the fire department said in a statement. They arrived at the scene to find one child dead and another seriously injured. An adult suffered moderate injuries in the accident.

The victims were “self-extricated” before firefighters arrived, the press release said. Details, including her age, were not immediately available.

According to the fire department, emergency responders provided extended life support and assisted in transporting the survivors to a local pediatric trauma center.

News video from the crash site showed a badly mangled Kia sedan and panel van with extensive damage.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
