1 person arrested after human remains found in dumpster at Camarillo apartment complex

CAMARILLO, Calif. (KABC) — One person has been arrested after human remains were found in a dumpster at an apartment complex in Camarillo, authorities said.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested Friday afternoon after finding the remains earlier in the morning.

Authorities said the man was related to the victim.

MPs responded to a call in “suspicious circumstances” just before 7am, in which the caller reported he may have seen human remains in the dumpster near the 300 block of Townsite Promenade.

“Investigators were called in and determined they were body parts,” Capt said. Cameron Henderson of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Details surrounding the discovery were not immediately released.

Neighbors and investigators told ABC7 Camarillo is one of the safest towns in Ventura County and said an incident like this is unnerving and saddening to neighbors.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said resident Joyce Ayers. “Overall, I feel like Camarillo is a safe area. That’s why I retired three years ago. It’s really heartbreaking.”

It is unclear how the human remains ended up in the dumpster and the identity of the victim is unknown.

As homicide detectives continue their investigation, they reassure the neighbors and say it’s safe for them to walk through the complex.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
