3 dead, including suspects, after gunfire outside Cornerstone Church, a megachurch on the outskirts of Ames, Iowa

AMES, Iowa — A man shot dead two women Thursday night outside a church in Ames and then apparently killed himself, authorities said.

The man killed the two women outside of Cornerstone Church, a megachurch on the outskirts of Ames, Story County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Nicholas Lennie told the Des Moines Register. Investigators don’t know the age of those killed, Lennie said.

The shooter then appeared to have shot himself, but his death is still under investigation, Lennie said.

The Church is off Interstate 35, approximately 30 miles (48.28 kilometers) north of Des Moines.

A Cornerstone Church spokesman released the following statement: “A tragic shooting occurred tonight involving two young members of our Cornerstone Church community… Our hearts are breaking for all involved and our prayers are for all affected, especially the family of the.” Victim .”

The sheriff’s office did not identify those killed or provide details of what led to the shooting. A press conference is planned for Friday morning.
