3 Houston-area businesses targeted in same jewelry robbery, owners say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — On Monday night, ABC13 reported a brazen robbery in Alvin in which two men pocketed a $15,000 Rolex from a high-end resale store.

Since then, two other store owners in the Houston area have said they were victims of the same robbery.

Houston police have not confirmed whether these crimes are related, but each case bears some similarities. First the men occupy the place. They then return and show fake ID to view the merchandise before running off with a Rolex.

A May 12 surveillance video of a chain of jewelry stores in Baybrook Mall shows a man trying on a Rolex watch worth about $7,500. He draws the clerk’s attention away, then turns and runs out of the store with the watch.

Earlier that same day, the same man and a second suspect stole a $15,000 Rolex from Meme’s Treasures, about 10 miles away in Alvin.

ABC13 also found a Houston jewelry store with a video of two men with the same descriptions looking at Rolex watches in late April. The owner said one of the men returned two days later and claimed he wanted to buy his girlfriend a $75,000 one.

The video shows the man using the slightest distraction to run away. He and a woman waiting outside the store rushed to a getaway car.

The owner declined to appear on camera to protect her business, but said she was stunned by the fact that thieves were brazenly robbing high-end stores in the middle of the day while other customers were inside and security guards were on site .

“Actually, I feel less safe and secure now. Because now they know what they can do and what they should do. No, I don’t feel safer at all,” she said.

All three business owners said they work with HPD detectives despite the different locations. ABC13’s request for information went unanswered, so there’s no word on whether investigators have identified or apprehended any of the thieves.
