60 wrong-way highway accident: 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after industrial collision; several WB lanes closed

INDUSTRY, California (KABC) — One person was killed and another hospitalized after falling the wrong way on Freeway 60 in the city of Industry Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The incident happened near Crossroads Parkway around 5 a.m. and forced the closure of several westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said it could not confirm initial reports that a second vehicle in the westbound lanes was also traveling eastbound at the time of the collision.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. The deceased was not immediately identified.
A second person was transported to a hospital in an unknown condition.
It was unclear whether the dead or the injured patient was in the ghost vehicle.
Traffic was backed up for miles on the west side of the freeway as the morning commute began. Motorists were diverted at South Seventh Avenue.
