A completely unknown medieval horror film “The Head Hunter” is sneaking in on a new audience

Horror is almost overwhelmingly set in modern times, or maybe back to the early 1900s if you’re lucky. Given how fascinated our ancestors were by the occult, including those several centuries ago, it’s a shock that we don’t watch more horror movies set back then.

Then comes 2018, a medieval horror film that no one seems to remember or care about The Headhunter, which is currently looking for a new audience of genre hardcores. Perhaps unsurprisingly, with a budget of just $30,000 and almost direct to video-on-demand, nobody remembers much of it.

The Head Hunter sees a fantastic bounty hunter working for a local kingdom, which equals security concerns, knowing that one day a monster will return and eventually present him with a real challenge. The title character is played by Norwegian actor Christopher Rygh Film set in United States, Portugal and Scandinavia.

At just $44,000, if you’ve actually seen it in theaters, you’re part of an extremely elite group. While it’s not the most terrifying horror movie you’ll ever see, it does have some brilliant, gruesome deaths and bloodthirsty enemies. Creature design of impeccable quality.

Unfortunately, there are very, very few medieval horror movies. There’s a certain Dark Souls vibe to the universe they’re creating, and luckily it’s R-rated and goes for the throat. Not since Army of Darkness Has a film so consciously focused on medieval aspects with funny horror.

Directed, produced and written by Jordan Downey, it will go down as a unique author’s work that deserves to be loved more. Whenever you see a film developed on a budget of this magnitude, you can’t help but appreciate the effort more than you normally would.

The Headhunter can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
