A deeply disturbing found-footage horror that unexpectedly spawned an entire franchise has yet to fall in popularity

The oversized horror genre is synonymous with a variety of smaller subgenres that are undoubtedly having a major impact on the entire cinematic landscape. Although found footage classics like The Blair Witch Project (1999) and Paranormal Activities (2007) have always been regarded as the crème de la crème, while a handful of other chill features certainly come close to the caliber of the classics. Over 15 years later, the Spanish feature film still amazes people with its eerie narrative and organic formula – elements that have still to be replicated in the same way ever since.
