With Phase 4 complete, it’s fair to say that Thor: Love and Thunder has risen – or rather, fallen – to be called the biggest disappointment of 2022’s Marvel endeavor. Well, if that’s the case then it has to be the second most important MCU disappointment of the year Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswho not only failed to truly deliver on the promise of its title, but also failed to actually live up to being one Doctor Strange Movie.
At least that’s what many fans would say. And now they’re arguing that again after a spirited attempt to defend the sequel on Reddit. A user attempted to claim Scarlet Witch’s dominion Doctor Strange 2 was akin to Killmonger stealing the show Black Panthera film widely acclaimed as the two antagonists share a similar amount of screen time.
Unfortunately, the responding Redditors didn’t agree that this shot contained water, as they hit back with critical comments that made it clear that the only thing the OP had done was reopen some barely healed wounds. Everyone seemed to agree that screen time wasn’t the issue with how the film handled Wanda.
For some, it’s all about how the hero in question reacted to their enemy. T’Challa obviously stood his ground and fought for his kingdom against his twisted cousin, while Strange… not so much.
It’s not the amount of screen time that matters, it’s how you use it.
Of course there are others mummy fans out there. It all seems to be a matter of perspective.
Of course, this thread led to at least one person throwing up an alternative idea that’s been floated many times since the sequel came out: saving Wanda’s descent into darkness for another project.
Phase Four may be done and dusted, but it’s clear that the Doctor Strange 2 The discourse will not be over in the foreseeable future.
