A man is ‘sabotaging’ his ex’s chances of getting a job, shocking the internet

The internet was stunned after a man “sabotage” the chances of his ex getting a job in a new viral social media post.

Posted on Reddit’s r/AmITeA**hole forum, a man under the anonymous username u/Glass-Vase7099 shared his story to get feedback from the “AITA” community. The popular post has over 5,000 upvotes and 600 comments.

The original poster (OP) began his story by declaring that he has been married to his wife for about a year. However, she has an ex-husband named “Joseph” with whom they share custody of their 15-year-old daughter “Mia”. The Redditor said that Joe likes to start drama within the family. He likes to pick fights and blame the OP.

He wrote that his wife was trying to find a job, and when she got a good opportunity, she was disqualified because her “husband” called her and said she had various “issues.”

The OP wrote: “She came and yelled at me, accusing me of sabotaging her career and trying to control her while ruining her reputation. I swore I had nothing to do with it but she said the company said her husband contacted her. she refused to give his contact information. I thought it was Joseph, especially when he pointed it out.

“Usually he would call to show off after he caused a problem and made me the villain. I didn’t wait for his call, I called him myself, put it on speakerphone and let my wife listen. I tricked him into confessing/ bragging about impersonating me and spoiling my wife’s opportunity. My wife was angry that she left and there was a big fight at his house,” he continued.

He called the OR and said he “set him up” and that his ex “didn’t walk away from him,” which also resulted in Mia not speaking to him as well. He also told the OP he “should have minded his own business” and how he had “invaded his privacy.”

news week contacted u/Glass-Vase7099 for comment.

news week has published several articles about relationship conflicts, including a husband who was praised for “publicly humiliating” his wife on social media. In another case, the internet supported a woman for being in a relationship with her brother’s ex, and a woman was praised online for leaving a man after nine years because his children would not accept her.

What is “defamation” and how to make a claim?

Defamation is the act of making false statements about an individual to a third party thereby damaging that individual’s reputation, as defined by Britannica. Libel and defamation are legal subcategories of defamation. Slander is slander that is written or broadcast while slander is spoken slander.

According to kppblaw.com, these are the five elements of a defamation lawsuit:

  1. The person being defamed was clearly identified by the statement – not just “a blind object” where the defamer refers to “a specific person”.
  2. The comments had a negative impact on the person’s reputation.
  3. The information is demonstrably incorrect.
  4. The defendant shared the information because he knew it was wrong.

You can bring a defamation lawsuit by meeting with an attorney and providing them with evidence as per alllaw.com. If the attorney believes a person has a viable case, the next step would be to file a libel suit and a suit would be served on the defendant. The plaintiff and the defendant answer questions under oath called a deposition. Negotiations begin soon after the statements to see if they can reach an agreement, if not the case goes to court.

Redditor reactions

U/LetThemEatHay asked and received the top comment from over 10,000 upvotes: “[Not the a**hole], but I have to ask… since she knows how her ex is, why did she immediately think it was you and not him who was fucking with her. And did she really apologize?”

“[Not the a**hole]. HE is mad at YOU? Honestly I would go to the police and then to a lawyer – posing as someone, sabotaging, this is beyond conflict or ‘prank’ and needs to be closed NOW,” said u/Straight-Singer-2912.

“[Not the a**hole] and your wife may wish to speak to an attorney. Sounds like slander to me,” commented u/HPNerd44.

“[Not the a**hole]. He’s just mad at you because he got caught. He’s pissed that you’re “invading his privacy” when the only person invading someone’s privacy is Joseph. I don’t know why he’s surprised his actions have consequences. Going forward I would advise both you and your wife to bring Joseph to the attention of your employers and even Mia’s school and that he is known for calling and making up lies,” u/joywaveee warned the OP.
