A opinion-splitting franchise sequel that enlisted two future Oscar winners is making its way back into relevance

At this point it is common knowledge to argue that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Catalog is one of the most profitable franchises in horror history. From a rejuvenated reboot in 2022 to an imminent video game release in 2023, the Slasher series remains a timeless array of bone-shattering and nerve-racking content. And while some sequels in the movie franchise are pretty lackluster, one classic sequel has stood the test of time — and that would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Directed by Kim Henkel, the fourth installment in the gory-stained franchise attempted to paint Leatherface in a completely different light, as opposed to previous versions of the iconic villain. Rather than just feasting on human flesh, this version of Leatherface focused on both inner and outer beauty — with cross-dressing the villain and finding a hobby in makeup. Of course, many diehards opposed the narrative changes, while other people, many of them from the R/Horror subreddit, have welcomed the film’s fresh direction, fighting spirit, and “electrifying” performances.

Without a doubt, the horror sequel has been wildly acclaimed in the years since its release, thanks in part to the dynamic duo of Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger leading the charge, along with the “so bad it’s good.” is” mood of the film and the overall direction of the story. And based on that collection of responses, the eerie flick has asserted its certified cult classic status.

Honestly, movies in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Bubbles are often considered overlooked masterpieces that deserve a few revisits to really grasp the importance of the franchise. And while it remains to be seen if another installment will be released in the near future, fans can certainly continue to praise past projects.
