A portion of I-275 in St. Petersburg will be closed overnight for construction

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Attention drivers. Driving overnight on Interstate 275 from St. Petersburg to Tampa involves a detour.

A section of I-275 in St. Petersburg will be closed overnight for construction of the Gateway Expressway project.

The Florida Department of Transportation said northbound drivers will be diverted off the freeway at Gandy Boulevard (exit 28) between 11:00 p.m. Monday, August 21 and 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22.

Upon exiting the freeway, drivers will stay east on Gandy Boulevard for half a mile and exit right to the Martin Luther King Jr./4th Street North exit, according to the FDOT.

(FDOT)

Traffic turns left at the traffic light onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and continue north to the ramp back onto I-275 northbound.

When motorists need to go to Roosevelt Boulevard, they can turn off the MLK in either direction of the street.

For more information on the Gateway Expressway project, see FDOT website.
