A suspect armed with a knife who grabbed the victim by the throat was arrested by officers

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The man who assaulted a victim at a Brandon 7-Eleven gas station was arrested by investigators Friday.

Jose Cruz Tapia, 33, was caught by security camera entering the Brandon Boulevard gas station in the early hours of Thursday.

Cruz Tapia grabbed the victim’s neck and forced the woman to open the cash register. He carried a carpet knife.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed false imprisonment, robbery with a deadly weapon for less than $750, tampering with a witness and tampering with evidence.

“I know that everyone at teamHCSO worked diligently to apprehend this dangerous criminal after watching the surveillance feed,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I am proud of the swift action taken by our detectives to track down this suspect and put him behind bars. We hope that the woman who was attacked can begin healing, knowing that this man can no longer hurt her.”

The investigations are still ongoing.
