According to the police, an 18-year-old and two teenagers were injured in a shootout in a waffle house early on Saturday morning.
Police received a report of the shooting at the Gonzales, Louisiana diner just after midnight, the Gonzales Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. When they got to the scene, they found two victims with gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
One of the victims, 18-year-old Willie Bridges, was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Ascension Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
Another victim was taken to a hospital near Baton Rouge in stable condition, while a third later arrived at a local hospital in critical condition, police said. Authorities have not revealed their identities as they are minors.
Many details about the fatal incident, including the events leading up to it or whether the shooting was accidental, remained unknown as of Saturday afternoon. The Gonzales Police Department has also not confirmed whether they have identified the shooter.
Ami Clouatre, a police spokesman, told the local newspaper The lawyer that none of the victims appeared to be Waffle House employees and that investigators were working to determine if they had entered the restaurant before they were shot.
Employees told the newspaper they hadn’t seen anything since the shooting happened outside. The restaurant reopened at 6am. The incident is under further investigation by local police, who urged anyone with information to call (225) 647-9583.
In a statement to news week, A spokesman for Waffle House wrote that the company is cooperating with law enforcement during its investigation.
“As of this writing, to our understanding, none of our employees working at the time were injured during the incident. As far as we understand, the incident also occurred in an area between a nearby hotel entrance and a nearby parking lot and our restaurant. “, the statement said.
Shootings in chain restaurants are surprisingly common in the United States. In April, several teenagers were shot dead after a fight outside a Waffle House in downtown Atlanta.
Meanwhile, earlier this month in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a shooting at a Chili’s restaurant left a woman and a 15-year-old employee dead with injuries after the victim and the suspected gunman got into a fight at the bar.
Late last month, a customer at Jack in the Box in Houston, Texas, allegedly shot and killed an employee after being told there was an extra charge for extra dipping sauce.
news week contacted the Gonzales Police Department for comment.
