A sneak peek at the upcoming seasons of The Mandalorian, Loki, and the new series Secret Invasion, which also debuted.
Rosario Dawson makes her Star Wars starring debut in Ahsoka.
A first look at the Disney+ series, which is in the works for 2023, featured Dawson as a live-action version of the Togruta ex-Jedi, reprising her cameo appearance in The Mandalorian for her own standalone series.
Other shows that got a sneak peak were The Mandalorian Season 3, Loki Season 2 and the upcoming new series Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson.
Dave Filoni is executive producing Ahsoka with showrunner Jon Favreau, with the show slated to premiere in 2023.
Starring alongside Dawson are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi and Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Hayden Christensen is reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker for a crossover, and Ray Stevenson is set to play a mysterious villain Admiral.
Ahsoka is best known for appearing in episodes of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, voiced by Ashley Eckstein. Her appearance in The Mandalorian suggested she could pick up on one of the loose threads of Rebels: her hunt for the Empire’s Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of the Star Wars Expanded Universe’s most popular villains, which harks back to Timothy Zahn’s novel ” Legacy of the Empire” in 1991.
Dawson was linked to the project via social media: “Someone tweeted me and cast me from a fan,” Dawson said. “I tweeted back and was like, ‘Absolutely yes please’ and ‘#AhsokaLives.’ And apparently that got the attention of someone who’s been doing the ‘Star Wars’ press for years. She forwarded it to Dave Filoni. That started a whole thing. I was like, ‘Oh my god, was I just cast in something by a fan?’”
Dawson has also been in trouble for apparently confirming that Christensen was joining the cast before his official announcement. It’s worth noting that Dawson’s title character was previously an apprentice to Skywalker in The Clone Wars animated series, so the crossover isn’t too surprising.
Dawson wrote: “Skyguy… you know it!!! See You Snips” using the nicknames of the characters from The Clone Wars for each other. Only later did Dawson learn that the report was an unconfirmed rumor.
“I checked my email and ‘Star Wars’ was like, ‘You might want to delete that,'” Dawson explained. “I’m like, ‘Man, I can’t be trusted.'”
