Amazon founder Jeff Bezos tweeted on Sunday that inflation hurts the least affluent in the United States the most, and for the second time in a week slammed President Joe Biden for his comments on inflation.

“Indeed, the government has gone to great lengths to provide even more stimulus to an already overheated, inflationary economy, and only Manchin has saved it from itself,” Bezos wrote on Twitter. “Inflation is a regressive tax that hurts the least well-off the most. Misdirection doesn’t help the country.”

Bezos’ comments were in response to a thread in which President Joe Biden claimed the US was on track to experience its biggest annual deficit decline on record, totaling $1.5 trillion. Biden also took aim at former President Donald Trump, who saw the deficit in office “growing year by year,” he wrote.

On Friday, Bezos called President Biden over a tweet that said taxing wealthy companies could help bring down inflation. Bezos asked the disinformation board to review the tweet.

“It’s okay to discuss raising corporate taxes,” Bezos wrote Friday. “Taming inflation is crucial to discuss. Throwing them together is just a misdirection.”

In both cases, the president didn’t specifically name Amazon, although he previously commented on the e-commerce giant’s tax records.

Comments have come from both President Biden and Bezos as inflation in the United States nears a 40-year high and Federal Reserve officials seek to raise interest rates to combat the problem.
