Amber Heard vs. Johnny Depp: 4 court revelations

Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to face each other in a high-profile defamation lawsuit.

Depp, 58, has sued Heard, 35, for $50 million and says she defamed him when she penned an op-ed in 2018 That Washington Post about being a domestic violence survivor.

Although the comment didn’t mention Depp by name, his attorneys said it was clear Heard was referring to him and that it was damaging his reputation and career. Heard’s attorneys have argued that her opinion piece was accurate and did not defame him.

Here, news week summarizes five revelations from last week’s trial in Fairfax, Virginia.

Depp, heard Paul Bettany’s lyrics about the “drowning.”

Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn showed the court text exchange between Depp and WandaVision star Paul Bettany, including one in which the actors joked about killing Heard.

“Let’s burn Amber!!!” Depp wrote in a 2013 text. “I’m not sure we should burn Amber,” Bettany wrote back. “She is delightful company and pleasing to the eye. We could, of course, do the English procedure and do a drowning test. Throughts? They have a swimming pool.”

Depp replied: “Let’s drown them before we burn them!!! I’ll fuck her burned corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

Depp accuses Heard of defecating in bed

Depp told the court that after he and Heard had a fight at her birthday party in April 2016, he went to get his stuff from her house while she was at the Coachella music festival.

He said his security guard advised against it and “on his phone showed me a photo of … it was a photo of our bed and there was human feces on my side of the bed.”

Depp added, “It was so bizarre and so grotesque that all I could do was laugh.”

Depp Details Gory Fingertip Incident

Depp testified that during a fight while the former couple was in Australia, Heard threw a large bottle of vodka at him, resulting in his fingertip being severed.

The actor described writing on the walls in his own blood before calling his doctor and said he previously lied about the evening’s events to protect Heard.

“She threw the big bottle and she got contact [with the bar] and shattered everywhere. To be honest, I didn’t feel the pain at first,” Depp said.

“I felt heat and I felt like something was dripping down my hand and then I looked down and realized the tip of my finger had been severed and I was looking straight at my protruding bone.”

Heard has denied those claims, saying Depp cut his own fingertip during a three-day bend.

Heard admits hitting Depp while he was ‘on Ambien’

In a recording played in court on Wednesday, Depp can be heard asking his former wife if she “lost her memory” from “kicking” a bathroom door before allegedly hitting him “in the skull”.

“I was upset, it was busy and I was on an ambien,” Heard replied. “Why are you obsessed with the fact that I can’t remember the way you remember it? I said I’m sorry. I don’t deny it.”

Depp’s lawyers played a series of audio recordings of altercations between the former couple.

“I’m sorry I didn’t slap you in the face with a good slap,” Heard says in a clip. “I hit you, I didn’t hit you. You weren’t hit.”

“Don’t tell me how it feels to be hit,” Depp replied.
