American Music Awards 2022: Pink pays tribute to Olivia Newton-John with “Hopeless Devoted to You” from “Grease”.

DOYLESTOWN, PA– Pink said her tribute to Olivia Newton-John at the American Music Awards was “magical.”

However, she didn’t reveal what the song would be when she spoke to Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show last week.

All was revealed Sunday night when the Doylestown, Bucks County native took the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and sang the words, “Guess mine is not the first heartbroken…”

Pink sang “Hopeless Devoted to You” from the 1978 film Grease when photos of the late Australian singer were projected onto a screen.

newton john, who died in August at the age of 73She had 14 top 10 singles in the US, won four Grammys and starred opposite John Travolta in Grease and with Gene Kelly in Xanadu.

Pink told Kimmel that her daughter performed “Grease” last summer and helped teach her the lyrics to Newton-John’s song.

Pink was introduced on stage by Grammy and Oscar winner Melissa Ethridge.

“From the moment you were in the presence of Olivia Newton-John, you felt her sweetness, you were in awe of her inviting beauty and you basked in the feeling that she only connects with you,” said Ethridge. “But as soon as she opened her mouth to sing, you knew you had to share her with the world.”

Alongside “Hopeless Devoted,” Pink opened the AMAs with a performance of her single “Never Gonna Not Dance Again.”

The song is from their new album “Trustfall”. In an interview with Good Morning America Pink said she saw how her music could bring people together and she hopes to do the same with this album.

“My album is a piece of me and I think I’m an example of how to live authentically and fearlessly in a way,” she shared.

In connection with her album, Pink will be touring next summer. Tickets go to the general public on Monday 21st November.

The “Summer Carnival” tour includes a homecoming show at Citizens Bank in South Philadelphia on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Another superstar who grew up not far from Pink’s hometown also had a big night at the AMAs. Taylor Swift of Berks County, Pennsylvania won six awards.
