That patriotic message was echoed by other celebrity viewers who also seem eager to celebrate America.

Former politician and Fox News contributor, now host of her own podcast, Monica Crowley thought she had cracked the mystery Top Gun: Mavericks Success. “Even though it’s set in 2022, it catapults us back to the mid-1980s, when we had a real president, men were still men and there was undisguised pride in America.” She added on Twitter, “It’s both nostalgia – as well as hope.”

Top Gun: Maverick is nostalgia and chin creases and fighter jets—I loved it,” wrote American writer Shea Serrano.

The sequel, which not only took over 30 years in the making but also faced a two-year pandemic delay, secured a huge theatrical debut over Memorial Day weekend. It earned an estimated $151 million in the US and Canada in the first three days of release.

American actor and author Ben Dreyfuss, son of actor Richard Dreyfuss, took to Twitter to discuss the reaction to the film. In response to a quote questioning why critics praised the film despite its “layers of transparent military propaganda,” Dreyfuss wrote, “Why do people even write something like that? It’s a film about Tom Cruise playing a naval aviator. transparent military propaganda.'”

He continued,”Top Gun: Maverick has a rare A+ Cinemascore for giving audiences exactly what it promised. If only it had been a depressing drama about a Navy veteran struggling to gain access to proper health care through the VA [Veterans Affairs]the audience would have said, ‘This isn’t the movie I came to see.’”

Those verified Twitter accounts above weren’t the only ones praising the film for its patriotic tones.

Meanwhile, @PorscheCutie wrote: “Love or hate Tom Cruise but Top Gun Maverick is a home run for a patriotic film. Love for the military, love for our nations’ flags and love for the country, it’s all there.”

Far-right politician and Arizona Senator Wendy Rogers also seemed to love the film. “Not woke up top gun goes gangbuster at the box office. [America First] is back.” she said. “Yeah, I know Tom’s an idiot, but credit where credit is due. Hollywood needs to stop taking money from China and they need to make more naive pro-America movies like Top gun 2.”

Top Gun: Maverick is now only in cinemas.
