An electric blanket can save you £150 on gas bills in winter – without a huge increase in electricity bills
Using an electric blanket can save you an average of £150 on gas bills in winter – without increasing your electricity bills, research shows.
These blankets saved customers 20 percent on their gas bills and increased electricity bills by just 0.2 percent, reports Octopus Energy.
This meant customers managed to save an average of £148 on their energy bills over three winter months.
The provider gave out 34,000 free electric blankets to at-risk customers between December last year and March this year.
Electric blankets typically cost around £60, with some costing as little as £30 and can heat a person for as little as 3 to 4p an hour.

They are designed to attach to your mattress under your fitted sheet to warm your bed.
Octopus Energy’s Rebecca Dibb-Simkin says: “An electric blanket means you’re heating the person, not the house – they stay warm for just 3p an hour.”
