Long before awards season even started, Andrew Dominik’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic Blond was already one of the most controversial and hotly debated films of the year, and that only continued when the annual backslapping ceremonies began in earnest.
However, nothing sums up the divisive nature of the revisionist view of the legendary Hollywood icon’s life better than Ana de Armas, who secured an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. It wasn’t just the only nod Blond secured at the biggest party on the industry calendar, but it also came as part of the film with more nominations than any other at the Razzies.

Thankfully, de Armas managed to escape the wrath of the Golden Raspberries by missing out on the worst actress contenders list, though those in power saw fit to nominate a 12-year-old girl instead. Blond has landed in the race for worst movie, worst director, worst supporting actor, worst prequel, worst remake, worst sequel or rip-off, worst film combo, and worst script, but despite what Twitter seems to think — the Lead actress didn’t make the cut.
As if you needed any other indicators, of which de Armas was the only aspect Blond To escape unscathed from the wreckage of the widely despised glimpse into the darkest corners of Monroe’s life and times, she was invited to celebrate at the top table while everything else about the biopic is burned and trampled to dust.
We’re pretty confident she won’t win, but at least she gets a pass.
