“Andor” showrunner teases “Gangsters and Outliers” in season 2

Andor wrapped up its first season yesterday, capping 12 episodes of Tony Gilroy’s master class in storytelling and suspense, with hardly a misstep in its web of storylines, intrigue and monologues that any writer would be envious of.
As a forerunner to Villain One, Andor is perhaps the best window into pre-Rebellion galactic life we’ve seen yet, and it’s downright chilling to see the unbridled iron fist of the Empire do as it pleases with citizens and prisoners alike. But as we know from Villain Onethat should change.
Series lead Cassian Andor’s emotional and ideological journey was, of course, one of the salient nuances in the events of Andor, and his arc in particular, illustrates the question both Gilroy and the audience continue to ask; where and how is it going from here?
In an interview with Deadline, Gilroy questioned what exactly it takes for such a rebellion to come together; Who rises to leadership, who falls behind, and what moral failings must the chaotic judiciary of the Rebellion’s many factions make to achieve their goals?
Well, we have four years to examine how difficult it is to start a revolution, how difficult it is to become a leader, how difficult it is to be a victim. But what about the original gangsters? What happens to the outliers? What happens to the people who…every revolution consumes people and glorifies people, and not always the people who did what mattered. How do you scale something that essentially doesn’t thrive in sunshine? How you do that?
Actually even Villain One has drawn no punches to show the moral sacrifices of the rebellion, and with the rebellion being no more than a shapeless whisper in the end AndorHow might these forfeits in season one change as season two airs?
Whatever the answer, we’re all but certain that Gilroy has the tools and know-how to masterfully answer these questions, and we’ll be patiently waiting to see where Andor‘s second season takes us.
AndorThe first season of is available to stream in full on Disney Plus. The show’s second season, currently in development, will be its last.
