The series takes place five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and has been described as a “spy thriller” by showrunner Tony Gilroy. The series’ ensemble cast includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona and Fiona Shaw. Andor also marks the return of Genevieve O’Reilly as former Senator turned rebel leader Mon Mothma. The teaser trailer was released on May 26th during the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California.

The series is slated to span two 12-episode seasons, with season 2 filming this fall. Succession composer Nicholas Britell is in charge of the score.

Gilroy teased that “Andor” will subvert the expectations of “Star Wars” fans with “sideways” told stories and will remake the trilogy in 2016. “It’s about him being really revolutionary, cynical, lost and kind of messy,” Gilroy said as the story follows Andor (Luna) into adulthood after the destruction of his world.

“His adopted home will be the base of our entire first season and we’re watching that place radicalize,” Gilroy continued. “Then we see another planet completely dismantled in a colonial fashion. The empire is expanding rapidly. They destroy anyone who stands in their way.”
