Despite having one of Hollywood’s most impressive acting careers, Angelina Jolie was willing to put her responsibilities as a mother ahead of her job.
So much so that Jolie once predicted that she would quit acting when her children reached a certain age.
How Angelina Jolie envisioned her children when they got older
Jolie has often expressed pride in the way her six children have grown up. But in addition to her own influence, the Grave robbers star has the feeling that the children were influenced even more by each other.
“They’re pretty great people,” Jolie once told People. “And because there are so many of them, I think they influenced each other very much. It’s not like I’m the head of anything. I am very honest with my children. And I am very human with my children.”
She further claimed that all of her children are their own unique individuals with different passions and interests. Where those interests would take her in the future, Jolie could only speculate. But she made a few educated guesses in her 2017 interview with Hello.
“I envision spending my days traveling from country to country to visit our children who I expect will live all over the world,” she said.
Jolie believed some of her children would follow in their mother’s footsteps when it came to the actor’s humanitarian efforts.
“I think some will be interested in my international work and I’d love to work with them as I move forward,” Jolie said.
Angelina Jolie once planned to give up acting when her children reached a certain age
As her children grew older, Jolie wasn’t sure if she would be able to act and raise them at the same time. Back in 2012, the Oscar-winning actress predicted that she might retire from the spotlight when her kids are grown to a certain point. Especially since she had already felt satisfied and fulfilled with her acting career.
“I think I’ll have to give up acting anyway when the kids hit their teens. Too much to manage at home,” she once told Channel 4 News.
As grateful as Jolie was for her career, there was no question that raising her children was a higher priority.
“I’m going to be doing some films and I’m so lucky to have the job, it’s a really lucky profession to be a part of and I’m enjoying it. But if it was gone tomorrow I would be very happy to be home with the kids,” she added. “I wake up in the morning as a mom and turn on the news like everyone else and I see what’s happening and I want to be a part of the world in a positive way.”
Angelina Jolie was relieved that none of her children wanted to be actors
Jolie wasn’t a fan of her kids being part of the film industry. But it’s a worry she might not need to worry too much about. In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour (via People), Jolie confided that acting was the furthest thing from her kids’ minds.
“None of my kids want to be actors,” Jolie said. “They are actually very interested in being a musician. I think they like the process of filming from the outside. Mad is interested in editing. Pax loves music and DJing.”
Aside from the music, she also shared that her kids were keen to connect with the world by learning different languages.
“I asked them what languages they would like to learn and Shi is learning Khmai, a Cambodian language, Pax is concentrating on Vietnamese, Mad has chosen German and Russian, Z speaks French, Vivienne was keen to learn Arabic and Knox is learning sign language “, she said.
This was a pleasant surprise for Jolie, who felt like she was discovering a new side to her children.
