Animal Cruelty: Man accused of hitting dog in Anaheim apartment complex turns himself in, police say

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — The 33-year-old man suspected of being seen on video kicking and punching a dog at an Anaheim apartment complex has surrendered, police said.

Albert Frank Abad Jr. reported himself to the Anaheim Police Department early Thursday morning.

Police say he is the man featured in a viral video on social media of what appeared to be an all-black goldendoodle being abused.

A NOTICE: The video above is from a previous report on this case.

The incident happened at the Gateway Apartments last week.

The video shows the man chasing the dog down a hallway, then punches and kicks the animal and drags it away before disappearing from view.

The footage has outraged residents of the building and local dog owners, who are calling for the man to be found and arrested.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer told Eyewitness News last week the department was inundated with calls about the case.

“We absolutely appreciate people’s passion for this cause, but we ask that they please rein their passion and have some confidence in our abilities to solve this crime and investigate this crime,” Carringer said.

The incident is being further investigated. Police said more details will be released as they become available.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to search for the dog featured in the video.

This is an evolving story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
