Apollo Beach man arrested in connection with deadly Riverview Wawa shooting

RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) — An Apollo Beach man was arrested Tuesday after officials said he shot and killed another man in a Riverview Wawa earlier in the month.
Officers said they were called to the Wawa at the corner of US Highway 301 and Gibsonton Drive around 8:30 p.m. on May 10 after reports of gunfire.
At the scene, officers said they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and later died.
Through investigative measures, the investigators were able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Tyler Harnage.
Officers said they received an arrest warrant for Harnage on Tuesday for third-degree murder. The same day, the sheriff’s office said Harnage had surrendered himself to Orient Road Jail and was accompanied by his attorney.
“I commend the hard work of the investigators who worked tirelessly to solve the case and find the suspect who is not only responsible for the death of another person but also puts the lives of others at risk through his careless and violent nature brought,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “He did the right thing in facing the consequences of his actions.”
The sheriff’s office said the case is still active and ongoing.
