Asleep at Wheel’s Ray Benson to auction band memorabilia in October

Benson said it was time for him to “clean up the house” and share all the items he’s collected over time.
AUSTIN, Texas – Grammy winner Fell asleep at the wheel‘s Ray Benson is gearing up to sell memories spanning five decades next month.
Corresponding a report from the news partners of the KVUE on the Austin American statesmanBenson has partnered with Burley Auction Group in New Braunfels to host a live and online auction.
Benson sells hundreds of items he’s amassed over the band’s 50 years, including custom guitars, outfits, and even the 1954 Studebaker he drove to Texas when he moved to the Lone Star State in the 1970s. Austin City Limits and other occasion tapings are also available, along with a set of 13 Willie Nelson guitar picks.
According to the Statesman, Benson said it was time for him to “clean up the house” and share with others all the items he’s collected over time.
“It’s time I parted ways and allow these items to find a new home and bring nostalgia and happiness to others,” he said.
Asleep at the Wheel will perform at the ACL on October 7th to help kick off the popular music festival. The band has played at almost every ACL since forming in 2002.
