Bay Area-based MobileCoin CPO Bob Lee has died, the company confirms

Tributes poured in from other tech executives on social media — some of those colleagues saying Lee was killed.

Bay Area tech executive Bob Lee has died, the company confirms

SAN FRANCISCO– Bob Lee, founder of Cash App and current CPO of cryptocurrency company MobileCoin, has passed away, the company confirmed to our sister station in San Francisco.

The news came as a shock to many online.

Tributes poured in from other tech executives on social media — some of those colleagues saying Lee was killed.

The police in San Francisco had not confirmed this as of Tuesday evening.

Prior to his current job, Lee was the CTO of mobile payment app Square and the creator of CashApp. Earlier in his career, he had also worked at Google.

Joshua Goldbard, the CEO of MobileCoin, sent the following statement to ABC7 News: “Bob was a force of nature. Helped bring Android and CashApp into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy wallet for the 21st century. I will miss him every day.”
