BBC takes a first look at the Peaky Blinders creator’s gritty new drama – with a cast full of familiar faces

THE MAN behind Peaky Blinders has dreamed up a new dark drama – and it’s about to air.
The BBC has shared a sneak peek into the new world of This Town, and music lovers will be particularly excited about the show.
It all begins in 1981 against a backdrop of social unrest, as a group of young people struggle to make a name for themselves as part of a band.
The young people immerse themselves in the world of music by playing ska, which was very popular in England in the 80s.
The genre is known for uniting young people regardless of racial or ethnic background.
Steven Knight arranged for the show to be filmed in Birmingham, one of the original hometowns of ska music in the UK.
Famed producer Dan Carey and award-winning musician Kate Tempest are on board as songwriters behind the music played by the fictional band in this series.
Mercury Studios, which is affiliated with Universal Music Group, has also pledged its support by hiring a number of high-profile artists to work on the project.
Key cast members viewers can look out for include Downtown Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Nicholas Pinnock and David Dawson.
A familiar face from Peaky Blinders will also appear in This Town as Irish actor Brendan Gibson will appear in the drama.
The six-part series will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer next year.
