Beauty and the Beast Live on ABC – Disney+ Release Date Announced

With The Little Mermaid Live!‘s Flounder doll still floating around in our nightmares, ABC looks ahead to the next live TV adaptation of a beloved Disney item. (Hint: this is the one with the dancing forks.)

Hamish Hamilton will direct a hybrid live-action/animation production Beauty and the Beast, TVLine has confirmed. Jon M. Chu, director of the upcoming Evil film, was tapped for executive production. The event, which will air Wednesday, December 15 on ABC and be streamed the next day on Disney+, celebrates the film’s 30th anniversary.

“Beauty and the Beast is a timeless tale and we are fortunate to be working with creative mastermind Jon M. Chu and veteran director Hamish Hamilton to bring a modern twist to this beloved classic for an unforgettable night of Disney magic ‘ said Craig Erwich, presenter of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, said in a statement. “Riddled with unforgettable performances, this will be a special, must-see event for fans of the original and for the new generation introduced to this cherished story.”
