“Becoming Elizabeth” Canceled by Starz – No Season 2 for Royal Drama

The series focused on Queen Elizabeth I’s teenage years with Alicia von Rittberg (Genius: Einstein) with the role of the future monarch. After the death of Henry VIII, Elizabeth and her siblings find themselves in a frantic power grab while her nine-year-old brother, Edward, ascends the throne. “Elizabeth struggles to control her own destiny and seize real power while the men around her seek to claim her sovereignty,” reads the official description.

British playwright Anya Reiss created the series and served as executive producer. The supporting cast were Romola Garai (The hour) as Mary Tudor, Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey) as Thomas Seymour and Bella Ramsey (game of Thrones) as Lady Jane Grey.

become Elizabeth debuted on Starz in June with an eight-part freshman season. The season finale on August 7th will now serve as the series finale. However, Starz has renewed its forthcoming adaptation of Dangerous romances for a second season ahead of its premiere later this month.
