Thanks to the sheer expression of abject misery on his face, the internet has seen countless new sad faces Ben Affleck Memes to play with after the actor’s less-than-enthusiastic experience at the weekend’s Grammy Awards.

The two-time Oscar winner has already been lauded for staying ahead of The Flash as grumpy billionaire Bruce Wayne, but a purported explanation for Affleck’s downcast expression has turned out to be a lot less exciting and infinitely lazier than anyone had hoped to hear.

As one of those mysterious “unnamed sources” put it to Entertainment Tonight, the real reason for his memorable cup was simply the fact that he was tired.

“Jen and Ben had a fun date night at the Grammys, but they were both very busy working on multiple projects and Ben was tired. He wanted to go out and support Jen, but he wasn’t himself.”

That’s about the most boring way to sweep Affleck’s stingy evening under the rug, but even if he made an effort to stay awake, he’s been in the business long enough to know he wouldn’t get away with it solemnly under the bright lights of the Social Media Investigation.
