Beverly Hills Cop Original Cast With Eddie Murphy For Axel Foley

Returning stars John Ashton and Bronson Pinchot join franchise newcomers Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Axel Foley.

Eddie Murphy isn’t the only OG “Beverly Hills cop” back for the revival movie.

After Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley was announced earlier this year, in which Murphy reprises his title role of Detroit detective-turned-LA-cop Axel Foley, Judges Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot will step down in their respective roles now for the fourth time repeat film part.

While Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley’s plot details have mostly been kept under wraps, it is rumored to be following Axel (Murphy), who returns to Beverly Hills to investigate the death of an old friend while also investigating the police corruption within to reveal to the police. In Los Angeles, he reunites with his daughter (Taylour Paige) and teams up with her ex-boyfriend (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to solve the case.

Mark Malloy is directing the film from a screenplay by Aquaman screenwriter Will Beall, who previously wrote the TV series Training Day. Beall is also writing another ’80s revival film, Legend of Conan, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Jerry Bruckheimer is producing Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley with lead actor Murphy. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic are executive producing and Chad Oman and Melissa Reid are co-producing for Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

Original supporting actor Reinhold previously played Detective William “Billy” Rosewood, Axel’s antagonist within the LAPD. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is Reinhold’s first film in five years since 2017’s Bad Grandmas and the Lifetime TV movie Four Christmases and a Wedding.

Ashton will play the now-retired Sergeant John Taggart, with Emmy-winning Reiser as Axel’s sidekick and Detroit Police Department partner. Pinchot reprises his role as art dealer Serge. Beverly Hills Cop gave rise to two sequels, released in 1987 and 1994 respectively. The fourth film comes 38 years after the original, similar to the sequel to the storied blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick 36 years later. Beverly Hills Cop received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1984.

Reflecting on reuniting with co-star Murphy, Reiser told Slash Film, “I was finally happy to see that he actually didn’t look 23 anymore. It’s like this damn guy looked exactly like this a year ago.”

The Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley release date has yet to be announced. The film is currently in production.
