Beverly Hills man charged in overdose death of LA model, boyfriend dumped in hospitals

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — A Beverly Hills man on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to a grand jury indictment alleging murder in connection with the overdose deaths of a model and her friend who died outside hospitals in the area of Los Angeles just over a year ago Los Angeles had been dumped.

The indictment, unsealed on Tuesday, charges David Brian Pearce, 40, with the deaths of Christy Giles, a 24-year-old model and aspiring actress, and her friend Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, 26, in November 2021.

Pearce is also charged with a series of alleged unrelated sexual assaults between 2007 and 2020 involving seven women and two counts of selling/transporting/offering for sale a controlled substance – fentanyl.

In addition, the indictment charges a second man, Brandt Walter Osborn, 43, with two counts of retrospective aiding and abetting. He has also pleaded not guilty.

Pearce and Osborn had been awaiting a hearing to determine if there was enough evidence to bring them to justice, but that case was dismissed on Tuesday on the substitute charge.

Giles and Cabrales-Arzola were last seen at an apartment in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood before their bodies were dumped — Giles outside Southern California Hospital in Culver City and Cabrales-Arzola outside Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Hospital.

Giles was already dead when she was found outside the hospital on November 13, 2021. Cabrales-Arzola, an architect, was alive but in critical condition. Her family took her off life support later that month, a day before her 27th birthday.

Her death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner last year, with toxicology reports finding multiple drugs in both victims’ systems.

According to the department, Giles died from a mixture of cocaine, fentanyl, gamma-hydroxybutyric acid and ketamine, while Cabrales-Arzola died from multiple organ failure with cocaine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy) and other unidentified drugs found in her system. Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB, is also known as a “rape drug,” according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Giles’ mother, Dusty, wrote on Facebook that she hopes the coroner’s findings will lead to criminal charges being filed in the women’s deaths.

“Although we, her family, knew and believed all along that our baby was murdered, it is now officially listed as her cause of death!” Dusty Giles previously wrote of the re-arrest of ALL parties involved and this time PRESS THE LOAD! Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.”

Pearce was originally charged with sexually assaulting four women in December 2021, and prosecutors subsequently added sexual assault charges involving three other women. The district attorney’s office then filed the murder and drugs charges before bringing the case before the grand jury, which returned the indictment on December 14.

Pearce remains in prison while Osborn is out on bail. The two are expected in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on February 9.
