LOS ANGELES — Actor Bill Nighy is getting some of the best reviews of his career for Living, a new film about a man who is actually dying.
Just last week, that performance earned him a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Actor.
Nighy takes on the quiet role of an ordinary man doing a mundane, routine office job. It’s only when he learns he’s dying that he realizes it’s time to start earning a living, and he doesn’t find meaning until very late in life.
Nighy said the film had a message “that you can live a meaningful and meaningful life without reaching for world domination.”
“You make the best of the life you have, rather than yearning for a life you didn’t have or won’t have in the future,” he added.
His character befriends a young worker in his office who is full of life. She is one of the people who helps him enjoy life while he can.
“And his death isn’t the end for some reason… There’s something that’s inspirational,” Nighy said.
Living will play exclusively at the Laemmle Royal in LA starting Friday, December 23rd.
