The billionaire Issa brothers, who own Asda, are believed to be eyeing fast-food giant Subway in a reported £8billion takeover.

Mohsin, 51, and Zuber, 50, are believed to be looking to acquire the restaurant chain they believe would fit well into their empire.

The brothers’ EG group already has Subway restaurants in some of their more than 6,300 service stations around the world, 340 of which are based in the UK.

A source told the Sun: “EG Group felt for a while that Subway was treating them the same as other franchise partners and their massive growth was not appreciated. So what better way to show who’s boss than own it?

The business titans, the children of immigrants who moved to Blackburn from Gujarat, India in the 1970s, saw their business expand rapidly after they partnered with TDR Capital.

The deal also included its chain of gas stations.

It was believed that Walmart was being courted by the Issas’ entrepreneurial flair and potential to set up Asda convenience stores in EC service stations.

Since then, the brothers’ EG group had bought the Leon grocery chain and made an offer to add Caffe Nero to their corporate collection.

They are also believed to have been considering an offer to acquire Boots.

The group also owns KFC’s largest franchise and works closely with the likes of UK favorite Greggs, as well as Starbucks, Krispy Kreme and Cinnabon.
