At the moment, The Witcher: Origin of the Blood Show is on Netflix. The spinoff prequel has received a grim reception and has also caused behind-the-scenes problems for those who star in it when it comes to filming scenes of intimacy with their various characters.
Sophia Brown, Mirren Mack, and Laurence O’Fuarain address the issue in a new article published by Digital Spy. For Fjall actor O’Fuarain, he says the experience could not have been properly navigated without her on-set intimacy coordinator. The job hasn’t always been common in Hollywood, but has increased in recent years and is apparently a wonderful thing to have on hand.
“Lizzy Talbot was our intimacy coordinator and she was just brilliant. She really did it like a stunt. But they’re always awkward, you know? You have a lot of strangers looking at you while you undress. But the short answer is yes, they are extremely weird.”
Later in the report, Brown, who portrays Éile, adds that it doesn’t always feel natural. Also, the coordination seems to be similar to fight scenes, and ultimately the key is to shoot a lot of stuff beforehand to be cool with a partner.
“By the time we shot some of these intimate scenes, we had already worked so closely together that I felt very comfortable telling Laurence clearly what I needed.”
Merwyn performer Mack concludes the article by saying it’s weird to have to sit on someone shortly after meeting while other people are standing around. She adds that those moments on set felt like dancing, and that wasn’t something she expected, but everyone made her feel relaxed, and nobody channeled their inner Sean Bean by claiming that the Coordinators would spoil the spontaneity on set.
“I felt like I knew every single move that was coming. So it was quite comfortable, which I wasn’t really expecting. I found it really easy to undress a bit; Everyone on set made it feel really safe, comfortable and warm.”
The show has four episodes in total. There is currently no release date set for the third season of the original show. After its third season, it will replace star Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth, and while many are unhappy about that decision, Cavill has been promised a heroic send-off, and apparently Hemsworth’s version of the character will be different than fans are expecting.
