Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said Joe Biden’s student debt relief plan is robbing Americans and using their money to fund “Karen’s daughter’s graduation in lesbian dance theory.”
Boebert’s comments were made in part in response to Biden’s comments at Thursday’s Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Maryland.
The President attacked Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda and denounced the ideology as “semi-fascism.”
During his poignant Rockville speech, Biden said, “What we are seeing now is the beginning or death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy.
“It’s not just Trump, it’s the whole philosophy that underlies this – I’ll say something – it’s like semi-fascism.”
Boebert hit back at Biden’s comments during an appearance Fox News’ Hannity earlier this week.
In the clip, Boebert said, “How the hell could Joe Biden, with a straight face and a dry diaper, call America First’s conservatives a threat to democracy?
“He’s the one who allowed millions to enter our southern border.
Since it was uploaded by the Patriot Takes Twitter account on Saturday, August 27, the clip has been viewed more than 1 million times.
While not an actual major, lesbian dance theory has been used as an umbrella term for degrees believed to provide little or no value to students as they enter the workforce.
Boebert’s comments echoed how other Republican politicians have reacted to Biden’s student debt relief plan.
Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) told Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday, “If you look at the stats of freshmen who don’t graduate college but take on student debt to experiment with college — when you start, that first to award $10,000 to people who reinforce these reckless decisions.
“We should have people who make more thoughtful decisions and apply good economic principles as well as their personal circumstances. Then you have fairness and a much better business-savvy electorate.”
According to the White House, the debt relief plan is well-targeted and will not benefit “a single high-income person or household” and will exclude those in the top 5 percent of earners from access.
Instead, the Department of Education (DoE) is offering $20,000 in debt relief to Pell Grant recipients with loans held by the DoE.
It added that there would be up to $10,000 in debt relief for non-Pell grant recipients. Borrowers are eligible for this relief if their individual income is less than $125,000 ($250,000 for married couples).
The pause in federal student loan repayments is extended to December 31, 2022. Those who have taken out a loan should expect payment to resume in January 2023.
The White House added, “According to an analysis by the Department of Education, the typical undergraduate student with credit is now nearly $25,000 in debt.”
