SAN FRANCISCO– Located on the Hyde Street side of the Orpheum Theatre, visitors and passers-by stop to marvel at a vibrant new mural celebrating truth, beauty, freedom and love.
Multidisciplinary Tenderloin artist Diego Gómez collaborated with BroadwaySF to create the mural in honor of the ten-time Tony Award-winning ‘Moulin Rouge! to conceive and paint The Musical.
Gómez’s work combines the four bohemian ideals of Paris, the 2001 sequence ‘Lady Marmalade’ from Baz Luhrman’s film and modern elements unique to San Francisco in his latest creation.
The once heavily marked building has been revamped with bright colors, diverse artwork and graffiti to match the energy of downtown.
The contemporary mural welcomes guests to the Orpheum Theater where they can hear ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical, playing now through November 6, 2022.
Featuring a book by Tony Award winner John Logan; musical supervision, orchestration and arrangements by Tony Award winner Justin Levine; and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh, Moulin Rouge! is more than a musical – it’s a state of mind.
