The Bruins’ season ended on Saturday after losing 3-2 to the Hurricanes in Game 7 of the first round.
The story for Saturday’s game was more the same as for all other Carolina games. Boston struggled to score in the early stages of the game and Carolina scored the first goal of the game with 1:24 left when Teuvo Teravainen netted a quick pass from Max Domi on the doorstep.
Taylor Hall was called out to a double minor for high stick against Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo in the last minute of the first half. The Bruins were able to end the four-minute power play, but less than 10 seconds later, Domi pulled off a blocked shot to put the Hurricanes 2-0 up.
Boston got on the board a few minutes later when Jake DeBrusk deflected Patrice Bergeron’s pass off the boards and into the net. But the Bruins found themselves back to a two-goal deficit just five minutes later when Domi scored a one-timer in the slot.
The Bruins didn’t have many moments where they were close to goal over the next 20 minutes. Between DeBrusk and Domi’s second goal, Trent Frederic hit the post with a rush that would have decided the game 2-2. The Bruins had no power play until 6:27 into the game. They didn’t get a single shot into the net, however, and squandered an opportunity to reduce the Hurricanes’ lead to one.
The Bruins made a final rush in the closing minutes when they brought in goalie Jeremy Swayman to get an extra skater on the ice. David Pastrnak scored with 21.7 seconds to go. After winning the ensuing faceoff, Boston was able to cause chaos in front of the net with potential rebound and deflection opportunities. But the Bruins were unable to capitalize with the Hurricanes’ defense and goalkeeper Antti Raanta standing upright to end the series.
