Building fire at two businesses in a warehouse in South Austin

Once firefighters got to the scene, a second alarm had gone off for a 200,000-square-foot warehouse whose roof was on fire.

AUSTIN, Texas – A building on East St. Elmo Road is on fire early Friday morning.

At 4:22 a.m., the Fire Department Austin (AFD) tweeted that there was a building fire at the 400 block of East St. Elmo Road in South Austin’s East Congress District. The business at this location is SYMBOL3D prints houses.

Once firefighters got to the scene, a second alarm had gone off for a 200,000-square-foot warehouse whose roof was on fire. The camp is located near the original building fire.

“We found that the rear building was completely affected and reached into the front building,” said AfD area manager Steven Truesdale. “It took us quite a while to get the fire under control just because of the amount of fire we had when we arrived.”

According to AfD, other buildings in the area were not threatened by the flames. Investigators are on site to determine the cause of the fire.

The initial investigation found the fire started at The Yard, a multi-company commercial complex, and then spread to the ICON building.

“When we arrived, [the building on fire] “We see a lot of job boxes and other construction equipment there, so it looks like it’s completely empty except for the construction equipment.”

This is an evolving story. Check for updates again.
