A cat that ran down the street to ride home with its owner let the internet down this week.
In a viral video shared on TikTok on Thursday, Zazu the cat’s antics have been viewed more than 2.1 million times and garnered thousands of likes and comments.
TikTok user modern_motherhood posted the video from her car as the white kitten sees running up the street and the voice behind the camera says, “Oh my god, like he actually can’t even wait for me to walk into the driveway today come, this cat takes the p***.”
“I only came up to turn back,” she calls to the cat. “Have a laugh, mate?” As the cat runs to the car, she opens the door so he can jump in and go to the passenger side.
“Get comfortable, Zazu,” the TikToker jokes. As they round the corner with the cat eagerly looking out the window, they arrive home, and the happy cat looks very pleased with itself.
“I’m laughing my ass off at Zazu,” said one TikToker. Another commenter said, “My cat is just like that… feels like he has me wrapped around his paw.”
Many cat owners may not be familiar with the sight of a cat trying to get in the car – they think back to vet visits with unimpressed feline friends. But Preventative Vet actually reports that if your cat is properly used to driving, it can even learn to love it. With a few simple pieces of advice, they suggest that getting your cat used to car rides can be easy.
The first step? Getting used to the indispensable cat carrier. Just like us, cats need to be safe and secure in a moving vehicle. A carrier is a perfect way to keep them protected, safe and to avoid distractions from your cat while driving.
Once they are happy with the stretcher, it’s time to get used to the car. With the car parked and the doors and windows closed, try sitting in the car with your cat in its carrier. Owners should avoid exercising in the car in very hot or very cold weather.
If your cat seems comfortable in the carrier and in the car, it can be helpful to reward them with a tasty treat or even a slow-release treat to keep them busy during a trip.
Not all cats need a lot of convincing when it comes to traveling. A couple recently garnered attention online by sharing how they live full-time in a custom-built van with their three cats.
Zazu the cat hailing a rideshare wowed TikTok users who commented on the video.
“Your cat is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote one user. While another commenter wrote, “Oh my god this is way too cute.”
“So precious. Protect at all costs,” said another commenter. Meanwhile, others mentioned their own similar feline friends: “I’m glad my cat isn’t the only one,” said one TikToker, while another wrote, “My cat does the same. She followed my daughter to the store.”
