An image of a cat struggling with camouflage delighted the internet this week after garnering viral attention.
The image shared by u/bag-o-frogs on Monday on popular subreddit r/aww has melted hearts and garnered more than 13,000 upvotes.
Alongside the caption, “Luna Thinks She’s Hiding,” the image features Luna the cat hiding behind a thin veil curtain, with paws peeking out from below and a face perfectly visible through the curtain.
Excited by the image, Reddit users took to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Too cute,” wrote one user. While another commenter said: “I mean she’s hiding. Just not very well.”
Cats often hide behind objects, lurking and ready to pounce on another cat, a toy or even their owner. Veterinary behaviorist Wailani Sung P.hD. wrote about this behavior for Vet Street in 2015, saying, “The most common reason cats pounce on their owners is for play and attention. Typically, cats that engage in this behavior will hide behind a corner or furniture and then suddenly jump out.”
Although it’s perfectly normal behavior, Sung suggests that if the behavior has increased in frequency or intensity, it’s always a good idea to have your pet checked out by a veterinarian to rule out any health problems. Sung also noted, “If jumping behavior is causing you injury and you want to curb it, you may also want to talk to your veterinarian for ideas on how to redirect your cat’s playfulness with some simple play activities or food puzzles.”
Other commenters showed more sympathy for Luna’s efforts, praising the hiding kitten and assuring that her hide was successful.
“Sneak 100,” joked one commenter. Another said: “She’s doing such an amazing job! Big up Luna.”
Other Redditors said, “I don’t see anything?” And one commenter joked, “Where [is] Luna? I don’t see her anywhere in the picture.”
“This put me in uncontrollable fits of laughter,” said another Redditor. “I have a black cat that’s super good at hiding from my black curtains, but I don’t think it works that well with white cats.”
“Don’t shame her, she’s trying her best,” said another viewer of the much-loved picture.
It’s true that the internet loves a challenge – and when it comes in cat form, even more so. In March, the internet became obsessed with a picture trying to find a hidden cat in a bedroom after the picture was shared on Twitter. “This is my Wordl‘ one Twitter user joked as they tried to spot the sneaky cat.
