Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice remains one of the most controversial superhero films out there.
DCEU’s 2016 release has met with wildly mixed reviews, with some viewers calling it a “masterpiece,” though their peers largely see it as an over-the-top failure. Critics tend to be cynical about the film, calling it “incoherent” as well as “humorless” and “amazing,” but fans, as is often the case, are much more invested in Zach Snyder’s second DCEU entry. They largely praise the film for its casting, plot, and action sequences.
No one seems willing to agree on that Batman vs Superman, but a recent challenge on Twitter gives it a solid shot. User @AMagicWriter challenged his comic fans to describe the flick in just three words “for science”. Their peers were quick to take @AMagicWriter on board, flooding the comments section with three-word shots that paint a largely negative image of the Ben Affleck-Henry Cavill-led film.
Top Comment hilariously trolls the film by comparing it to Battle of Midway, which has been adapted into Battle of Midway. The actual battle took place in the Pacific Rim during WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor, but was recast in user @tinoskii’s reaction to instead become “a major battle involving two extremely medium units or media forms”.
This answer flawlessly summarizes the vast majority of the comments that replied to @AMagicWriter’s post. There were, of course, several positive takeaways, with some viewers giving enthusiastic three-word reviews. “It was perfect,” “work of art,” and “perfect damn movie” are all scattered between disappointed and outright enraged reactions from the film’s far more numerous critics.
The majority of comments veered much more into the territory of “Snyder’s career killer” and “a cinematic disaster” as comic book fans jumped at their chance to pull off the “mediocre at best” flick. Quite a few people seem to agree that the film is the “worst adaptation ever made,” though the team of Snyder loyalists worm their way into their comments to share their disagreement.
More than six years after its debut, the debate revolves around it Batman vs Superman has barely slowed down. People have some serious feelings about the film – and the Snyderverse in general – and its mostly good news for DC. The cinematic universe hasn’t come out with a film that truly rivals the MCU throughout its run, but its fans are the definition of die-hard. They will defend these Snyder releases with their last breath while keeping a faltering franchise afloat.
