Chicago PD star Tracy Spiridakos reacts to Jesse Lee Soffer’s exit

On Monday, Jesse Lee Soffer announced that he was leaving the role of Detective Jay Halstead Chicago P.D season 10

Soffer’s co-star Tracy Spiridakos, 34, who plays Halstead’s wife Detective Hailey Upton, gave a heartfelt goodbye to him following his announcement.

On Tuesday, August 30, Spiridakos took to Instagram and shared a photo with Soffer, 38, during a break in filming for the show.

In her caption, the actress wrote, “Jesse what can I say you are the absolute best. Thank you for your kindness, your guidance and your friendship.

“You are the best screen husband any girl could wish for. I will miss being on set with you every day. I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for you next. #upsteadforever.”

Soffer responded to Spiridakos’ post with a heart emoji.

Spiridakos joined first Chicago P.D as a recurring character in season four before being promoted to main cast as of season five.

At first, Upton from Spiridakos and Halstead from Soffer were partners before realizing they shared romantic feelings for each other, and the couple officially became a couple in the show’s eighth season.

Detectives Upton and Halstead, known by the couple name “Upstead,” became engaged in season eight and then married in season ninth, with the wedding being announced to their team later in the season.

In his original statement about his departure, shared with diversitySoffer shared his gratitude with the show’s crew, as well as his co-stars and crew.

The actor said: “I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support over the past 10 years and I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt and Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my colleagues and our incredible crew.

“Creating this hour-long drama week in and week out has been a labor of love for everyone involved with the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.”

NBC officials confirmed this news week that Soffer would be leaving in the 10th season of the show, but did not elaborate further.

The actor first took on the role of Detective Halstead in the second season of chicago fire, which led to the formation of a spin-off Chicago P.D in which Soffer appeared from his very first episode.

It’s not yet clear how Soffer’s character will be written out of the show or what episode will be his last.
