Chinese medicine herb can benefit heart attack patients

Astragalus, a traditional Chinese herb, contains a plant compound called TA-65 that has the potential to improve outcomes in heart attack patients, according to a study from Newcastle University in the UK.
The study found that TA-65 significantly reduced inflammation and, unlike current heart treatments, did not negatively impact immunity.
The study was conducted on patients aged 65 and over who had recently suffered a heart attack.
Patients received either placebo or TA-65 for over a year, and had their blood measured at baseline, six months and one year to assess results.
The participants were also regularly examined in the clinic for side effects.
The results showed that patients treated with the drug had far fewer complications, such as chest or joint pain, after their heart attack.
In addition, TA-65 increased lymphocytes and improved patients’ immunity. It also reduced inflammation by up to 62%, which is considered an important treatment goal for patients after a heart attack.
The team say it’s well-recognized that inflammation plays a key role in the formation, progression and rupture of coronary plaque that triggers a heart attack, but more importantly it’s also a major risk factor for further complications.
Reducing inflammation is therefore considered an important treatment goal for patients after a heart attack, and our study showed that TA-65 reduced inflammation by up to 62%.
TA-65 is a patented herbal compound isolated from Astragalus, a traditional Chinese medicine that has been used for thousands of years.
It helps preserve or rebuild telomeres, and those who received the drug had few side effects after their heart attack.
In fact, they had 30% fewer side effects than the group given the dummy drug.
While some powerful anti-inflammatory drugs have been shown to improve outcomes after heart attacks, they suppress the immune system and increase the risk of serious infections.
In contrast, the widely used drug TA-65 reduces inflammation but appears to improve immunity by increasing a patient’s immune cells.
The study was conducted on a small sample of 90 patients, and the researchers would like to conduct a larger study to confirm the results.
Further research will focus on whether TA-65 reduces adverse cardiac events such as more heart attacks or even death.
The researchers hope their study will pave the way for new treatment options for heart attack patients, particularly older patients who may not tolerate current cardiovascular treatments well.
They believe that by harnessing the power of plant compounds, they can improve patient health outcomes and reduce the risk of further complications.
In summary, TA-65, a herbal compound isolated from Astragalus, has the potential to improve heart attack patient outcomes.
It reduces inflammation and improves immunity without negatively affecting the immune system.
While the study was conducted on a small sample, the researchers hope to conduct a larger study to confirm the results and explore the potential of TA-65 as a treatment option for heart attack patients.
