Chip Roy and other Republicans are trying to end WHO funding

Texas Rep. Chip Roy and other house Republicans support a measure that would prevent the US government from funding the World Health Organization.

According to a copy of the measure published by the Washington ExaminerThe text of the measure states that “the United States shall have no assessed or voluntary contributions to the World Health Organization”.

“Functioning millions of taxpayers’ dollars to the corrupt World Health Organization, which serves the Chinese Communist Party, is a slap in the face to hard-working American families struggling under record-high inflation and to all those whose lives and livelihoods have been disrupted by COVID pandemic were ruined and destroyed,” Roy said, according to a press release.

While some Americans would likely rejoice at the prospect of cutting US funding for the WHO, the proposal likely has no chance of becoming law since Democrats control the Senate and White House. Roy has mention the measure in the past.

“The WHO not only regularly promotes abortion and a radical gender ideology, but also commended China for its ‘leadership’ at the beginning of COVID-19 and has done nothing to hold the CCP accountable for the spread of COVID-19. It is long overdue for Congress to use its power over the purse to cut off U.S. funding to this corrupt international body, just as the Trump administration did,” Roy said, according to the press release.

Republicans who have joined Roy in introducing the measure include Reps. Tom McClintock of California, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Mary Miller of Illinois, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Diana Harshbarger of Tennessee, Matt Rosendale of Montana, Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia, Paul Gosar from Arizona, Dan Bishop from North Carolina, John Moolenaar from Michigan, Pat Fallon from Texas, Andy Biggs from Arizona, Wesley Hunt from Texas and Greg Steube from Florida. The press release also lists “Huggins” from Louisiana, an apparent typo meant to refer to Rep. Clay Higgins.
