Chris Hemsworth shot up to A-list status after his role Thor and become a part of the Marvel family. His growing success once led to him being considered the next Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But it was a comparison the actor didn’t appreciate.
Chris Hemsworth didn’t want to be an “action hero”.
Hemsworth long aspired to be a working actor in Hollywood. After securing the roll in Thorthe actor was able to achieve this goal tenfold.
“It’s hard to say that playing Thor and being a part of the Marvel Universe has been rewarding because it has shaped my entire career and much of my life in such a positive way,” Hemsworth once said in an interview with Lifestyle Asia.
Since then, Thor opened the door to a variety of films for Hemsworth. Out of Snow White and the Hunter and extraction until the next crazy max Movie. Although many action films fill the actor’s filmography, Hemsworth initially did not want to become an action star.
“I loved that stuff,” Hemsworth once said in an interview about action movies. “As a child, I loved every fantasy. I grew up in a household with two brothers and we lived in the bush. We were constantly building guns and forts and so on. But I didn’t want to be an action hero.”
Chris Hemsworth was once disappointed at being compared to Arnold Schwarzenegger
Schwarzenegger is widely recognized as one of, if not the, biggest Hollywood action star the industry has to offer. His filmography ranges from heavy hitters such as predator and True Lies to the long-lived terminator Franchise. Some have suggested that given his looks, physique, and filmography, Hemsworth may have taken a similar path. But it was a comparison Hemsworth didn’t really agree with.
“The other day I was asked, have you always wanted to be the next Schwarzenegger? And I thought tcap What have you got from what I’ve done? I was really disappointed in how I thought, you know, I picked and loved those scripts because they had real actors and a real story and a real heart, and sometimes with movies the plot overshadows everything else,” Hemsworth once said in an interview with Den of Geek.
For Hemsworth, there were some differences between his films and the types of films Schwarzenegger primarily starred in. The genre Hemsworth explored, for example, allowed for a mix of subgenres and tones that pure action films sometimes lacked. He brought this up when discussing the differences and similarities between Christopher Nolan’s Batman films and his own Marvel projects.
“What they both have, I feel like more than ever, is that we combine themes in films, it’s not a lot that it’s either an action film or a romance film or a comedy, it’s like all these films are something now have all these themes collide and create these big adventures,” he added. “You have Charlize and then Hopkins Thorand then that Ken Branagh is directing a film like this is because they aren’t one or the other like they were ten years ago.”
Would Arnold Schwarzenegger ever be interested in making another superhero movie?
The last time fans remembered seeing Schwarzenegger in a superhero movie was tragedy Batman and Robin Movie as Mr Freeze. Since then, the actor hasn’t been close to a Marvel or DC project. But Schwarzenegger would still be interested in giving the world another chance at Hemsworth.
“I think all of these films are entertaining when they’re well written. Whether Batman or Batman and Robin or X-Men or Spider-Man – all. If they’re well written, they have a great life. People are enjoying them and you can see the revenue they are making around the world. So yeah, of course I would,” he once said, according to Cinemablend.
