Claremont Fourth of July fireworks canceled due to drought in California

CLAREMONT, Calif. (KABC) – California’s historic drought has resulted in the cancellation of the annual July 4 fireworks show in the city of Claremont.

With new outdoor water restrictions taking effect June 1, the extensive irrigation needed to prepare the field at Pomona College for the show is not possible.

Instead, the city plans to host a free food and drink concert in Memorial Park.

From Monday, residents may only water their lawns once a week or face hefty fines.
