CoD: Warzone and DMZ – How to defeat all Operation Nightmare bosses

The Haunting brings a nighttime version of Al Mazrah from Warzone and the map is full of demons and other spooky bosses to face as part of the Operation Nightmare event. This limited-time Halloween event requires you to hunt bosses to unlock unique rewards. Here’s how to defeat any boss to get all the rewards in Operation Nightmare.

Each boss fight unlocks its own unique calling card reward, which doesn’t sound like a big deal, but defeating all the bosses unlocks the “Blood Mess” weapon blueprint for the BAS-P submachine gun.

The Butcher

Operation Nightmare brings the Butcher from Diablo IV to Al Mazrah. This boss fight can appear in different locations, but this will be marked on your mission map at the start of the game. One by one, you must activate the pillars surrounding a ritual site. Zombies will attack you every time. Once the entire ritual is complete, a portal will appear. Go inside and face the butcher. He is surrounded by zombies and is an impressive ball sponge. So make sure you have items like ammo boxes, armor plates, and self-revival devices just in case.

The Butcher is a lengthy boss fight, so you shouldn’t leave this one until the last minute of your game. Defeating him will reward you with numerous pieces of equipment such as armor vests, cash, self-revives and ammo, allowing you to replenish your supply.

As for the reward, defeating the Butcher will earn you an MW2 Calling Card, but it will also unlock the Butcher’s Meat Hook for use in Diablo IV.

Note: The Event tab states that the Butcher is also available on Vondel, but the boss is not visible on the map at the time of writing. It is expected to be available when the nighttime version of Vondel goes live on October 20th.

swamp creature

The swamp creature is only found on Al Mazrah and is marked on your mission map as Mawizeh Marshlands. The mission states that you need to find three egg capsules in the swamp to find the tiara needed to summon the creature, but I got the creature to spawn by simply opening the capsules and the tiara fell down first , after the boss is killed. I recommend focusing on opening the capsules until the creature appears, as there are far more than three. These also contain loot, and once you have the Tiara item it can be sold or won for $100,000.

If you defeat the creature, you will receive the Swamp Creature calling card as a reward.

The Pharaoh

The Pharaoh is only found on Al Mazrah, and fittingly, this boss is located at the Oasis attraction. You must secure skulls by killing possessed enemies that appear around you in the desert ruins and place them in the sarcophagus to awaken and defeat the Pharaoh.

At first glance it looks like you only need five skulls, but there are five more on the back of the sarcophagus. You need a total of 10 skulls to trigger the boss fight and be prepared for a brutal fight. Not only do possessed enemies appear all around you, the Pharaoh is also very fast and will chase you through the ruins. This is a bullet sponge enemy and he can execute you if he catches you. This is best attempted with a squad, and you should always keep moving.

Defeating this boss will reward you with The Pharaoh calling card.

UFO

The UFO is located in the Sawah village of Al Mazrah. Here you have to destroy the anomalies, which are blue glowing balls that fly around and shoot lasers at you. These can kill you very quickly if you are unarmored and use cover. Take them out to spawn the UFO, then destroy it as well. It will drop some loot for you as well as an artifact that you need to deliver to the portal that appears at your location at the top of the ship.

This isn’t a particularly difficult fight, but it does require a lot of ammo. Ammo boxes and light machine guns can be useful here.

Ghost train

Al Mazrah’s train has transformed into the nightmarish-looking Ghost Train, and you need to board the train and loot a heart item. For this task you will need full armor plates. The wagons are loaded with explosives such as proximity mines and claymores. It’s really easy to make boom.

You start at the end of the train and have to fight your way through the traps. If you throw Semtex or C4 into the train cars in front of you, you can clear some explosives before you reach them. There will be two sentry turrets at the end of the path, so make sure you disable those too. When you reach the front of the train you’ll find lots of loot boxes, and you’ll want to unlock the safe to get lots of cash and a UAV. The heart hangs above the safe. Don’t forget to take this item with you to complete the mission.

Defeating this boss unlocks the Ghost Train Calling Card.

Evil ghosts

This is a multi-stage challenge as you try to find different spooky encounters by opening supply crates in different locations. These are randomly found in the locations mentioned below. So just visit each location and start opening some loot containers.

  • Find a Reaper by looting containers in Al Safwa Quarry
  • Find a Ghoul-Bu looting containers in Al Mazrah City
  • Find a ghost by looting containers in Al-Bagra Fortress
  • Find a witch by looting containers at Al Malik Airport

Following these steps will unlock the Evil Spirits calling card.

General information

These boss fights can be completed in both Battle Royale and DMZ modes, but DMZ is the less chaotic option to face these bosses without a lot of human opponents trying to ruin your fun.

Don’t stress if you see that the boss you are targeting has been defeated. The boss respawns pretty quickly and the symbol appears on the map. It is also possible to defeat multiple bosses in one playthrough.

At night Al Mazrah is very dark. Wearing night vision goggles or using thermal scopes will make it much easier to spot enemies, especially any AI opponents lurking in the shadows of the DMZ.

Additional rewards can be earned through The Haunting’s Soul Capture event. Here’s our complete guide to unlocking these rewards quickly.
