Colton Haynes left ‘Arrow’ before the final season due to co-star issues

‘Member when it was unexpectedly announced that Colton Haynes had rejoined Arrow for season 7, would Not Are you staying on as a series regular for the final season?

Well, now we can get a little more insight into that abrupt departure.

Ahead of the CW series’ 10-episode farewell run, then-showrunner Beth Schwartz said Haynes would not continue as a series regular, the status he enjoyed in Season 7 when he reprized his role as Roy Harper aka Arsenal. But “we hope to have him back,” Schwartz told Green Arrow TV in August 2019.

Haynes’ status change came as a bit of a surprise, as Season 7 and her flash-forward storyline left some gaps to be filled – namely, why Roy had banished himself to Lian Yu decades after a falling out with Thea. (On the other hand, Haynes’ “regular” status in Season 7 was ultimately somewhat misleading, since he appeared in less than half of the 22 episodes.)

At the time the above news broke, Haynes took to Twitter to clarify: “I didn’t quit the final season of Arrow. I wasn’t asked to come back as a series regular for the final season.”

But now, in his new memoir Miss Memory Lane (via an E Online excerpt) he shed some more light on the circumstances that led to his full-time exit.

“I had quit my full-time job Arrow Earlier this year, ostensibly because my contract was up,” says Haynes, “but it was really because I was too depressed and couldn’t handle working with one of my castmates.”

Haynes ended up making a couple of appearances along the way Arrow‘s eighth and final season, including the end-of-series funeral for Oliver Queen. (Oops, spoiler alert.)

Next up is Haynes in the role of occasional troublemaker Jackson Whittemore Teen Wolf: The Moviea direct sequel to the MTV series, which premieres on Paramount+ later this year.
